PPM™ acts as a barrier to the germination of bacterial and fungal spores. Its heat stability enables it to undergo autoclaving with the media. PPM™ is recommended for use as a standard ingredient in plant tissue culture media and is significantly more cost-effective compared to commonly used antibiotics. Although its primary function is to prevent airborne and waterborne contamination, as well as contamination from human contact, PPM™ can also, in many instances, minimize endogenous contamination. Despite stringent adherence to sterile techniques, the issue of contamination in plant cell and tissue cultures remains a persistent challenge, leading to potential ranging from a few individual cultures to entire batches.
